Ryan W. Brackley is an experienced Colorado juvenile defense attorney who defends juveniles in Colorado who are facing criminal prosecution as adults and in the juvenile justice system.

If you are dealing with criminal charges involving a minor, you need to hire a Denver juvenile crime defense lawyer immediately. The juvenile court process is completely different than the criminal court process that an adult faces, and you need a lawyer who understands how to represent a minor’s interests and rights in juvenile court. Ryan Brackley will deliver the level of counsel you need. He understands the nuances of juvenile crimes and can take on cases involving underage drug crimes, theft, violent crimes and sex offenses and more.

What Are the Penalties for Juvenile Crimes?

Generally, the penalties for juvenile crimes include probation, therapy, community service, restitution, fines, and/or juvenile detention. Detention is often a last resort, and the court will try to rehabilitate the juvenile first through community service and/or fines. However, if the juvenile is 12 years of age or older at the time of the crime, they could be subject to incarceration for the same crimes as an adult.

When Is a Minor Tried as an Adult?

A minor aged 12 to 17 may be tried as an adult in Colorado if they are accused of committing a class 1 or class 2 felony. This may include serious violent crimes or sex crimes. In these situations, the case may begin in juvenile court and be transferred to criminal court. In other scenarios, the charges may be filed in criminal court to begin with. The minor’s attorney may file a reverse-transfer motion to get the case sent back to juvenile court, where the penalties are less severe and have fewer long-term ramifications.  Ryan Brackley believes that no child should ever be prosecuted as an adult and he will fight to keep your case in juvenile court.

Ryan Brackley will fight for you whether you are charged as a juvenile or an adult. His experience working as a prosecutor and a defense attorney for 32 years gives him a distinct edge in every case he takes on—no matter the venue.
